Things to Consider When Renting a Jet Ski
Renting a jet ski can be great fun. However, before you rent one, you should take a couple of things into consideration so that you have the most fun possible.
- Water Conditions. Try and find out from beach officials or the rental store attendants the condition of the water. Some beaches can be very dangerous with strong undertows or high waves. If you are not a strong swimmer or are with a child you might want to reconsider in dangerous conditions.
- Number of riders/age of riders. Make sure you consider how large of a jet ski you want and the age of the riders. Realize that many companies have rules concerning allowable age. Further, you need to realize that a single rider jet ski handles differently than a 2 or 3 seater.
- Area you will be riding/number of jet skis already there. Crowded water can lead to dangerous situations. If you think the water is too crowded to be able to get out there and have fun it will probably best to wait until later.
- Company policies. For example, what if you break down? Do you get the time or your money back? What if it starts storming? Can you get a 'rain check'?
- Your health. Have you been drinking? Are you a good swimmer? Can you handle the exertion?
- Price for each 1/2 hour-hour. Prices vary greatly from beach to beach and even from rental shop to rental shop. Make sure to shop around before making a final decision.
A jet ski rental can be a great way to spend the day. However, never let small children actually steer the jet ski and make sure that you always wear your life vest. Finally, stay away from all other riders and swimmers - this can lead to dangerous accidents.
If you love renting a jet ski and decide to purchase one, there are many things you should consider including price, safety records, etc. It is also a good idea to purchase jet ski insurance that covers accidents, theft, and more.
